Biography
Early life and family
She was born in Palisades, New York.[1] daughter of Lesley R. Vogel, a former soap opera actress, and Alan L. “Skip” Panettiere, a fire department lieutenant.[2] She has one younger brother, fellow actor Jansen Panettiere.[3]
Education
Panettiere attended South Orangetown Middle School in New York but following 7th grade, finished her high-school education via home schooling[4] and has postponed higher education due to her dedication to an acting career, though she has expressed an interest in “continuing to learn”.[5]
Career
Actress
She has appeared in over a dozen full-length feature films, as well as several made-for-TV movies. She provided the voice for Dot in the Pixar CGI animated movie A Bug’s Life for Disney.[9] In addition, she had a leading role as the voice of Kairi in the highly successful Kingdom Hearts series of video games for the Playstation 2. She had a starring role in FOX‘s Ally McBeal as Ally McBeal’s daughter, and a recurring guest role in Malcolm in the Middle. She guest starred in Law & Order: SVU. She played Sheryl Yoast in the film Remember the Titans. She starred in Bring It On: All or Nothing as a cheerleader. She held a supporting role as Adelaide Bourbon in the recently released independent film Shanghai Kiss.
She will later appear in the drama film Fireflies in the Garden as a younger version of Emily Watson‘s character Jane Lawrence. Coincidentally, George Newbern, who voiced Sephiroth in Kingdom Hearts II (alongside Panettiere) and Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, will also appear in the film. In June 2007, she signed with the William Morris Agency to represent her in her endeavors. She was previously represented by United Talent Agency.[10]
Forbes estimated that she earned $2 million in 2007.[11]
Singer
Panettiere was nominated for a Grammy in 1999 for Best Spoken Word Album for Children for A Bug’s Life Read-Along [2000].[12]
She is currently working on her debut album, which was originally planned for release on May 8, 2007. The album, however, has been pushed back several times. It was first pushed back until August, then to December. Entertainment Weekly later confirmed that the album would now be released in 2008. Hayden is featured on the Soundtrack to Bring It On: All or Nothing alongside her co-star Solange Knowles. It is still unknown if a video for Your New Girlfriend will be filmed. She also recorded a song titled “Try” for the 2007 Bridge to Terabithia soundtrack. She has recently recorded a ballad for Cinderella III: A Twist in Time called “I Still Believe”.
Endorsement
Neutrogena made Panettiere the cover girl for their new worldwide ad campaign;[13] following in the footsteps of actresses Kristin Kreuk, Josie Bissett, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Mandy Moore, Mischa Barton, Gabrielle Union and Jennifer Freeman.
Panettiere recently did a Got Milk? ad, like recent other ads featuring the cast of Heroes.
Punk’d
In early 2007, Panettiere was Punk’d by her mother. This was done by a man entering a restaurant with his son, where she was waiting for her mother. He asked for her photo and they started talking about Heroes, and her character Claire Bennet, when his wife enters and accuses her of hitting on him. Defending herself, she tells her she’s seventeen and was not flirting. His wife retaliates by saying she looks about twenty-eight, which seems to hurt Panettiere. After the family leave in argument, Panettiere and her mother sit there discussing it, the first thing Panettiere asks her mother, is if she looks twenty-eight, when the wife comes back in and sits at their table, and demands to know the whole conversation, leading to an argument between the wife and Panettiere after the wife has a go at Panettiere’s mother, and tells her she has issues and better sort out the family problems, when Ashton Kutcher and a camera crew enter. Panettiere jokingly tells her mother she hates her, and receives an “I Got Punk’d” plate, which she breaks accidentally when putting it on the table.
Personal life
She was at one point dating Stephen Colletti, the former Laguna Beach:The Real Orange County, star.[14][15] In December 2007 she was reported to be dating her Heroes costar Milo Ventimiglia, 12 years her senior.[16][17] That has now been confirmed by her parents.
Activism
On October 31, 2007 Panettiere was involved in a confrontation with Japanese fishermen as she tried to disrupt their annual dolphin hunt in Taiji, Wakayama. She paddled out on a surfboard, with five other surfers from Australia and the United States (including former Home and Away star Isabel Lucas) in an attempt to reach a pod of dolphins to release them. The confrontation lasted more than 10 minutes before the surfers were forced to return to the beach. The surfers drove straight to Osaka airport and left the country to avoid being arrested for trespassing by the Japanese police. Many Japanese consider this kind of act as an attack on their culture.[18][19] Taiji’s fishery cooperative union argues that these protesters “continue willfully to distort the facts about this fishery” and protester’s agendas are ” based neither on international law nor on science but rather on emotion for economic self-interest.”[20] Hayden claims that an arrest warrant on her has been issued in Japan for her interference in the dolphin hunt.[21] In November 2007, Hayden was awarded the “Compassion in Action Award” from the animal rights group PETA for her efforts to stop the dolphin hunt in Japan.
